What is PEX Plumbing/Piping?
PEX (crosslinked polyethylene) is part of a water supply piping system that has several advantages over metal pipe (copper, iron, lead) or rigid plastic pipe (PVC, CPVC, ABS) systems. PEX tubing is made from crosslinked HDPE (high density polyethylene) polymer. The HDPE is melted and continuously extruded into tube. The crosslinking of the HDPE is accomplished in one of three different methods: Pex-a, Pex-b, and PEX-c. At First Choice Plus Plumbing, Restoration & Air, we use Uponor PEX-a tubing as it is the highest quality available.
What Are the Benefits?
PEX piping offers many advantages over copper and other types of pipes. Some of these benefits include:
- Flexible, durable plastic piping
- Resistant to scale and chlorine
- Doesn’t corrode or develop pinholes
- Faster and less expensive to install than metal or rigid plastic
- Fewer connections and fittings than other types of pipes
Uponor: Over 30 Years of Proven Performance
A true pioneer in the field, Uponor first unveiled cross linked polyethylene tubing for potable water systems in the late 1960s. Thus, before others had entered the market, Uponor had thousands of feet of PEX-a working trouble-free in real-world installations. With 12 billion feet of Uponor PEX-a now installed worldwide, it has become the trusted solution for plumbing and heating systems for residential and commercial buildings, and multipurpose plumbing and fire sprinkler systems for one- and two-family homes. Designed, installed and operated properly, Uponor PEX-a systems will last as long as the structures they inhabit.
Committed to the Environment
We believe in sustainable building. That means using construction materials and practices that have little to no negative impact on the environment. Our radiant systems use less energy and improve air quality, our plumbing systems install more cleanly and conserve water, and our fire systems preserve structures and save lives.
Watertight Connections = Peace of Mind
Introduced more than a decade ago, Uponor ProPEX fittings remain the surest method for making watertight Uponor PEX-a connections fast and easy. Capitalizing on the unique, thermal shape memory of Uponor’s PEX-a tubing, fittings actually get stronger over time. No need to worry about behind-the-wall connections: ProPEX joints will last the life of the building.
We deliver healthy, clean and safe systems with the longest history in PEX-based plumbing, fire safety and radiant floor heating and cooling. Over the last 35 years, over 12 billion feet of Uponor PEX tubing has been installed worldwide, providing people with the ultimate in comfort, convenience and peace of mind.
