World Environment Day is June 5 and is a day focused on outreach, advocacy and education with the goal of inspiring people to make changes in their lives and take action to protect the environment. Join the celebration this year and think about some ways that you can help the planet.
One easy way is by saving water. With that goal in mind, today we’re happy to share some easy tips about ways that you can save on the amount of water that you use with your bathroom plumbing. And, as an added benefit, not only will these tips help you be more environmentally friendly, but they’ll also help you save money on your water bill.
Low-flush toilets are as effective as full-flush toilets but use significantly less water. Low-flush toilets use 1.6 gallons of water or less per flush; whereas, full-flush toilets use anywhere from 3.5 to 7 gallons of water per flush.
If your bathroom plumbing was installed before 1994, there’s a good chance that you have a full-flush toilet. While initially, low-flush toilets were not completely effective, their current technology, which uses a system of either gravity or pressure-assist, effectively removes waste with a fraction of the water.
As a result, it’s worth checking to ensure that you are using only low-flush toilets in your home, and, if you’re not, installing them. This will immediately reduce your bathroom water usage and is an easy way to save water and money.
Do your shower faucets have a leak or a small drip? If so, this seemingly insignificant drip could be taking a significant toll on your water usage.
Even the smallest leak can waste a substantial amount of water. It’s worth taking some time to check your bathroom plumbing and other faucets throughout the house to ensure that there are no leaks or drips.
If you find any, don’t ignore them. Instead, fix them as soon as possible so you can stop wasting water and decrease your water usage.
