The Brave Souls We Remember on Memorial Day

Where would we be without things like clean water or hot water? It’s hard to imagine a time when these things were not readily available to us. As Memorial Day approaches, however, we begin to realize that the brave men who fought and died for us did not have these little luxuries.

They did not have many of the conveniences we have today. For that, and so so much more, we honor them on Memorial Day. Memorial Day has long been a time to celebrate the lives of the men who gave their lives to protect our freedoms.

It’s a time to honor them by decorating the graves and memorials of all those brave souls who stood up to danger. It is Memorial Day when we can all come together and be thankful for our armed services, and to remember all of the little things we often take for granted would not be possible without them!

Decoration Day is Where it all Began

historyDecoration Day may not be a day you are familiar with, right? Decoration Day was what we called Memorial Day before it was made a Federal holiday in 1971. Prior to 1971, Decoration Day was a time to honor the men who had died in the Civil War.

Graves and memorials would be decorated with flowers, ribbons, and flags. Decoration Day originated during the Civil War. It is said that President Abraham Lincoln, though he died before the end of the war, started the practice with the Gettysburg Address.

Lincoln recited his speech at the Gettysburg Pennsylvania memorial; in tribute to the battle that had taken place there, and the young men who fought and died. It was a few years after the war ended in 1868 that Decoration Day was declared a day for the nation to honor the soldiers' sacrifice.

Many communities would pay respect on this day (originally May 30th), but it was not declared a Federal holiday by Congress until 1971. Coinciding with the beginning of the summer months, Decoration Day (now Memorial Day) took on some of the attributes of the Fourth of July. Barbeques, parades, and parties are common; although, the day still remains a time for us to honor the valiant heroes that have protected our way of life.

All Armed Forces are Honored on Memorial Day

armedforcesMemorial Day is not only a time to remember the many men who passed during the Civil War, but a time to remember all of the men and women who have died protecting us from tyranny.

The armed forces have long defended our country, and on Memorial Day, we recognize the sacrifice men and women of the military have made for our freedom. Locations around the country pay homage to all the courageous men and women of the armed forces.

Memorials are decorated for those who died in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Desert Storm, the Cold War, the War on Terrorism, and any other conflicts that have sent our soldiers into battle.

You Deserve Our Gratitude Too

thankyouAs we remember all of our fearless soldiers this Memorial Day, we realize the impact they have had on our lives. Things like hot showers and clean water would not be possible without them.

We give our humblest thanks to them, and to you! Without the loyalty, appreciation, and gratitude we receive from our clients, we would not be able to provide the service we do.

It is you that keeps us growing and striving to be the best be can be. If it was not for our clients, we would not be able to take advantage of the many opportunities our military has made possible for us.

From all of us at First Choice Plumbing Solutions, we wish you a safe and happy Memorial Day!
